The Plantation Culture Project was a group project where we had to create a piece of work, either a booklet, a piece of art, or an artifact, that showed the aspects of a culture whose people came to Hawaii to work on plantations. Our culture was Korean, and we made a booklet. This assignment demonstrates my usage of the 21st century skill, Information Skills, as it required large amounts of Internet-based research. I had to sift through large amounts of information and compile it into a piece of writing. I am most proud of the creativity our group showed in creating a booklet that seemed to be made by a plantation worker one-hundred years ago, as it showed successful teamwork. I think that after overcoming the difficulty of the research specifically, I will be able to research obscure topics more easily in the future. The research was the most difficult part of the task, which included writing the full booklet. If I were to go back and redo this assignment, I would be able to find better information more quickly. I've had to do research before, but it hasn't typically been this complex. In the future, research will be less of a problem in assignments, and I will be able to better focus on other aspects.
